Prof. Dr. Helwig Schmidt-Glintzer

Helwig Schmidt-Glintzer is Director of the China Centrum and Senior Professor at the University of Tübingen. In 1981 he was appointed to the Chair of East Asian Culture and Languages at LMU.

In 1993 he became Full Professor for Chinese Studies at the University of Göttingen and served until 2015 as Director of the Herzog August Bibliothek Wolfenbüttel.

Since 1976 he has been taking part in the preparations for the Max Weber-Gesamtausgabe and editing Max Weber’s studies on China and India. He has published on the history and historiography of Chinese Buddhism as well as on literature and culture of the traditional Chinese elite.
